Unterschieden werden eltern- vs. An overview of approaches to language intervention for children with developmental language disorders is presented, with a focus on specific language impairment. The framework, content, aims and techniques of recognized intervention approaches in Germany are classified. We distinguish parent-based from child-based forms of intervention. Language-specific approaches that focus on linguistic abilities in the domains of phonology, lexicon, or grammar are then distinguished from holistic approaches that aim to promote language abilities by enhancing non-linguistic skills. Language-specific interventions aim at stimulating the internal process of language development, they are characterized by an explicit developmental orientation, they concentrate on linguistic symptoms, and they provide the most optimal input for the child. Efficacy studies comprising reviews, group studies, and single case studies suggest that different forms of language intervention can be effective.
